Basketball Tag

Basketball Tag combines ball handling, movement, quick changes of direction, and teamwork, as players help each other. In the game, the runners move around the play area with a ball, dodging the taggers, while the taggers try to catch the runners by touching them. When a runner is caught, they stop, place their ball between their legs, and form a “hoop” with their hands. Another player can free them by throwing a ball through the hoop.

Game Instructions

  • Mark the play area and choose several children to be taggers. The taggers move around running without a ball.
  • The remaining players are runners, holding a ball in their hands.
  • Runners move around the area, dodging the taggers while holding their ball. When a tagger touches a runner, the runner stops, places the ball between their knees, and forms a “hoop” with their hands.
  • A caught runner can be freed when another runner throws their ball through the hoop and howls like a wolf. After being freed, both players continue the game normally.

Tip

  • For added challenge, runners may only move while dribbling the ball.
