The Wizard and the Beetles – Tag Game

In The Wizard and the Beetles tag game, children develop both body awareness and imagination. Before playing, it’s helpful to practice crab position and movements as well as beetle position and movements. Exercises for both can be found on this site.

Instructions:

  • The players are beetles, and an adult is the wizard who tries to catch the beetles.
  • Players move in beetle position, while the wizard stands upright.
  • When a beetle is caught, it transforms into a crab and freezes in crab position.
  • Other beetles can rescue the frozen crab by going next to it and doing the crab position themselves.
  • The rescuer and the rescued kick their legs straight four times while in crab position.
  • After this, the caught crab and the rescuer roll back into beetle position and are free to continue playing.
