Crab Position and Movements
Children explore the crab position together and consider all the ways a crab can move. Practicing crab position and movements provides a good foundation for The Crab Poem Game, which is also available on this site.
Instructions:
Check the crab position together: to be “big crabs,” the hips do not touch the floor; for “baby crabs,” the hips may touch the floor.
Invent different ways of moving in crab position.

- Crab walk forward
- Crab walk backward
- Crab walk sideways
- Crab spin
- Crab jump
- Crab nik-nak kicks (kick legs alternately forward)
